About This Place

Xuân Hương Restaurant offers an authentic taste of Vietnam right in the heart of Houston, TX. Specializing in traditional Vietnamese cuisine, this cozy eatery welcomes diners with a menu brimming with rich, aromatic flavors and fresh ingredients. Whether you're craving a comforting bowl of Bún Riêu — a tangy crab and tomato noodle soup — or the uniquely satisfying Bún Đậu Mắm Tôm, Xuân Hương expertly crafts dishes that celebrate the diverse culinary heritage of Vietnam.

The restaurant’s signature Chả Giò Xuân Hương (Vietnamese egg rolls) come highly praised for their crispy, golden exterior and perfectly balanced fillings of shrimp and mushroom. Paired with a side of their delightfully creamy mayonnaise chili sauce that tingles just enough without overwhelming the palate, this dish alone is worth the visit. The Bún Chả Cá Thì Là, featuring tender fish cakes with refreshing dill, offers a light yet deeply flavorful option that transports you straight to the bustling street markets of Vietnam.

The dining atmosphere is intimate and casual, making it a perfect spot for both a relaxed lunch or an early dinner. Although seating is somewhat limited and can fill up during peak hours, the staff attentively ensures your needs are met with friendly, prompt service. The pace is brisk, with dishes arriving swiftly to your table, preserving the freshness and vibrant tastes that make each bite so memorable.

Xuân Hương also boasts an array of delightful side orders such as Thịt Đùi (pork leg), Chả Cốm (young rice patties), and crunchy fresh tofu, allowing guests to customize their meals to their liking. For those seeking warm, comforting fare, options like Bò Kho + Bánh Mì (beef stew with baguette) and hearty hot pots offer a flavorful and satisfying experience.

To complement your meal, try one of their refreshing beverages. From the unique and slightly tart Soda Chanh Dây (passion fruit soda) to the velvety richness of Vietnamese iced coffee or a soothing cup of hot tea, Xuân Hương’s drink menu balances the meal perfectly.

Many diners rave about the quality and authenticity of the food here, especially fans of classic dishes like Bún Đậu Mắm Tôm who return again and again for its generous portions and bold flavors. While some note that the shrimp paste sauce can be intense, it’s part of what makes the experience authentically Vietnamese. Service is generally friendly and helpful, and although the staff may be stretched during busy times, they strive to provide a welcoming and attentive environment.

Overall, Xuân Hương Restaurant is a standout destination for anyone longing for genuine Vietnamese cuisine crafted with care. The harmonious blend of textures, spices, and fresh herbs creates dishes that are as comforting as they are exciting to the taste buds. Chả Giò Xuân Hương is the best, I strongly recommend everyone should try this. Fresh ingredients (shrimp, mushroom) and the sauce on the side was amazing (mayonnaise with chili - it is not spicy at all). Bun Dau Mam Tom was good as well, mam tom was not salty at all, you can adjust the taste with a twist of lemon. The restaurant has limited seats, service was generally okay. Food came out quickly. Cha Ca La Vong was okay, I love dill.

Since we came here around 2 or 3pm on Saturday, it wasn’t crowded at all. Service was fast and friendly. We ordered “bun dau mam tom” and “bun cha ca thi la”. They were both delicious. We will definitely come back for other dishes or maybe for another “bun dau mam tom” again!!

Personally my most favorite go-to spot for Bun Dau Mam Tom. The portion is great, the protein is spot on, both texture-wise and flavor-wise. The fermented shrimp sauce might be a bit strong and heavy with MSG, but delicious nonetheless. Other items on the menu are just as fantastic. Highly recommended to give them all a try! Service is good. Staff is helpful and friendly. Definitely coming back again and again.

We tried Bún riêu ốc and Bún đậu mắm tôm here. Food was delicious and price was reasonable. The bún riêu ốc portion/bowl was very large.

Their food is very tasty and flavorful! I had the bo co beef stew with banh mi and I really enjoyed it. My family had various dishes from the menu and all loved it. They might be understaffed, though, because it took a while for us to even get seated since there were dirty tables everywhere. Our server was kind and accurate.

Sorry, I wasn't feeling the best, so I didn't get a chance to take photos. The vermicelli bowl was very good. The flavors were perfect. More importantly, the washrooms were decent! It's probably the cleanest of all the Vietnamese places that we have been to. That's saying something!

I had this place recommended to me from a friend and I decided to come here during the week for lunch. When I walked in I was greeted and gestured towards a table. The hostess/waitress was very kind and friendly. Although she spoke limited English and I spoke limited Vietnamese (but learning), we were able to understand each other. I enjoyed the vibe of the restaurant. It seemed a little old school but it just made me enjoy the vibe even more. There was Vietnamese music playing on a TV/speaker, which again just enhanced the experience for me. I loved the authenticity of this restaurant. I ordered the Bún Đậu Mắm Tôm: 1. Bún Đậu Chà Thịt ( vermicelli, tofu, grilled pork pie, pork), (1 phần ) S, which was the portion for 1. For a split second, I thought maybe I should order the 2 phần or portion for two. Let me tell you, I would have not been able to finish a larger portion. I also ordered 1 order of Chả Giò Tôm Cua Xuân Hương (prawn - crab egg rolls). I had even toyed with the idea of ordering the Bò Kho + Bánh Mì. I wish I could have but I’m glad I did not. I did not anticipate getting this full off of these two dishes. For the Bún Đậu Mắm Tôm, I also ordered the Bánh Tráng (Rice Paper), which I used to wrap and roll the various ingredients up and dip into the sauce. Speaking of the sauce, I was warned that the shrimp paste on this particular dish would be stronger than usual. I did think the shrimp paste was more potent however I thoroughly enjoyed it and did not have a problem with the odor at all. Then again, I love durian too, so no surprises there. They will give you a pair of kitchen scissors to cut up the various ingredients like tofu, cakes, and pork. Just wet the rice paper in the water provided to get it damp and soft and then get to rolling. It’s way harder than it looks and gives me a new appreciation for the art of making gỏi cuốn. I ate everything on the platter. The Chả Giò Tôm Cua Xuân Hương were excellent, wrapped in lettuce and dipped into a sauce I was unfamiliar with but that was very tasty. I finished all of them as well. After this, I had no more room but I do plan on coming back to try a few more dishes like Bún riêu ốc and Bò kho + bánh mì. This is a great authentic Vietnamese restaurant and if you can get past the aesthetic that some people don’t like but which didn’t bother me at all, you will discover some outstanding food inside. Don’t miss out!
